Important information

The municipality maintains personal data on all residents in the Basic Registration of Persons (BRP). The municipality needs this data when you get married, for example, or when your passport expires. If necessary, the municipality may also share your data with other government agencies, such as the tax authorities or the police. In most cases you cannot remove your personal data from the Basic Registration of PersonsBRP). However, there are exceptions. You can only have data about your adoption, your child you gave up for adoption or your sex change removed from the BRP .

Good to know:

If you have been adopted, you can have the following information deleted:
  • The name you had before the adoption.
  • The names of your biological parents or guardians during the period before adoption.
  • The nationality you held before the adoption.
  • Information about the municipality, the address where you were registered and your residence in the municipality, during the period before the adoption.
  • Your possible departure from the Netherlands.
If you have changed gender, you can have the following information deleted:
  • Details of your name.
  • Data on your gender.
  • Using the last name of your spouse, registered partner or ex-partner.
