WS-2039-1 Emigrate (report moving abroad) with DigiD

Important information

If you are going abroad for longer than 8 months, you must deregister from the municipality. You can do this in different ways: online or at the town hall. Your departure from the Netherlands can only be reported online if all residents of the address are emigrating at the same time. If more than one person lives at the same address and not everyone is going with you, then everyone who is going with you must come to the municipality in person. This also applies to children under the age of 18.

Good to know:

  • You must notify the municipality of your departure up to 5 days in advance.
  • You emigrate if you spend at least 8 months within 1 year abroad.
  • These 8 months need not be contiguous.

Who can pass on an emigration?
  • Anyone 16 years of age or older.
  • Parents, guardians or caregivers for children under 16 years of age.
  • Parents for their resident adult child or children (only if parents and resident children move abroad together).
  • Cohabiting spouses or registered partners for each other (only if spouses and partners move abroad together).
  • Major children for resident parent(s) (only if major resident children and parent(s) move abroad together).
  • The trustee for a person under guardianship.

For better and faster treatment, the congregation requests at least:
  • If applicable, the names and dates of birth of family members emigrating with you.
  • Your old address.
  • Your new address.
  • The date of emigration.

Note!
  • Declaration of a move abroad by an authorized representative is not possible.
  • You will be deregistered on the day you report your move (i.e., not as of your actual departure date).
  • It is not possible at the municipality to print an extract with departure details after the day of departure. You can only do so at one of the RNI counters.
