Municipality of Wassenaar and Warmte Coöperatie De Paauw join hands for heat transition

The municipality of Wassenaar and Warmte Coöperatie De Paauw (WCDP) have signed a cooperation agreement to investigate and, where possible, implement heat transition in the De Paauw neighborhood. The cooperation includes concrete actions such as insulation, raising awareness and providing information to residents. But above all cooperation towards a concrete heat solution for the neighborhood.

WCDP, founded by residents in November 2024, aims to provide a feasible and affordable heat alternative for the De Paauw neighborhood within which the Burgwey and De Paauw neighborhood associations are active. The cooperative offers advice, insulation actions and further support to residents in making homes more sustainable. The municipality and WCDP have jointly set goals and responsibilities and laid them down in a cooperation agreement.

An important part of the collaboration is researching collective heat solutions based on local renewable sources, heat/cold storage and distribution for the neighborhood. The municipality is making a one-time €10,000 contribution to this research and WCDP's activities.

Alderman Wim Koetsier signed the cooperation agreement on behalf of the college on Wednesday, July 16. Hans van Moorsel was the signatory on behalf of the WCDP.

The cooperation lasts until 2026 and will be evaluated based on progress.

"With this collaboration, we are laying the foundation for a sustainable future in De Paauw. Step by step towards a carbon-neutral Wassenaar, in which residents are building a warm and green neighborhood together with the municipality. Only by truly working together can we make a difference for the generations of tomorrow. As an Alderman and resident of Wassenaar, I am super happy and proud that we are taking this step," said Alderman Wim Koetsier.

Hans van Moorsel added "This cooperation between our residents' initiative and the municipality of Wassenaar is important for an appropriate and successful energy transition in our neighborhood. The agreement reflects the mutual trust needed to carry this out successfully. We are very grateful to the municipality for this".
