Global Goals

In 2015, under the name Global Goals, the UN established 17 ambitious Sustainable Development Goals. In order to make the world a better place by 2030. The municipality of Wassenaar has been a Global Goals municipality since 2019.

1. Stop poverty everywhere

This means halving the number of people living in poverty. Everyone will have access to basic services such as clean water, food and shelter. Everyone also gets equal rights to work and income. In addition, people in vulnerable situations are empowered so they can better cope with problems.

2. No hunger

Global Goal 2 ensures that everyone has enough to eat. This means that everyone should have access to safe and healthy food. The goal is to end hunger and malnutrition. It also ensures food security so that people always have enough to eat. In addition, everyone gets better nutrition so that people stay healthy.

3. Good health and well-being

Global Goal 3 ensures that everyone has access to good health care. This means fewer deaths and illnesses from pollution. It also reduces traffic deaths and injuries. In addition, everyone will have access to sexual and reproductive Health. The goal is healthy lives and well-being for people of all ages.

By implementing local health policies and focusing on specific themes, residents grow up healthy and safe. Everyone can develop to their fullest potential.

4. Quality Education

Global Goal 4 ensures good education for all. This means good primary, secondary and higher education. There is also access to day care centers. Youth and adults learn important technical and vocational skills. All students are taught about sustainable development, human rights, cultural diversity and global citizenship. There are child- and disability-friendly schools. The goal is good and inclusive education and lifelong learning.

5. Gender Equality

The UN seeks to protect all women and girls from domestic violence and child marriage. In addition, they want to create equal access to education, health care and employment. They also want to give women more influence in political and economic decision-making. This should be enshrined in laws and regulations on a national and international scale. Ultimately, this has benefits for society as a whole.

6. Clean water and sanitation

Global Goal 6 ensures safe and affordable drinking water for all. This means less pollution and more efficient water use. It also involves good water management and protecting and restoring natural areas. Residents participate in water management. The goal is to make water and sanitation available and sustainable.

Based on the Municipal Sewerage Plan (GRP), we contribute to our duty of care to minimize environmental impact and improve public health. The goal is to create a water chain that is strong and sustainable for the climate.

7. Affordable and sustainable energy

Global Goal 7 focuses on ensuring affordable, reliable and sustainable energy for all. This means that everyone should have access to modern energy services at an affordable price. The goal is to significantly increase the share of renewable energy in the global energy mix so that we become less dependent on environmentally damaging fossil fuels. In addition, energy efficiency must be improved globally so that we waste less energy and do more with less. International cooperation is also important to access clean energy research and technology, and to promote investment in energy infrastructure and clean energy technology. Finally, infrastructure and technology in developing countries must be expanded and improved so that everyone has access to modern and sustainable energy services.

8. Fair work and economic growth

Global Goal 8 focuses on economic productivity, support entrepreneurship, creativity and innovation, especially for SMEs; productive employment; sustainable tourism. Sustainable, inclusive and resistant economic growth and full and productive employment and decent work for all.

Global Goal 9 focuses on building strong infrastructure, such as roads, bridges and energy facilities, that are reliable and sustainable. It also encourages innovation by investing in research and development, and by supporting new technologies and ideas that can improve industry and infrastructure. All this contributes to inclusive and sustainable economic development for all.

10. Reduce inequality

Global Goal 10 is about promoting social, economic and political inclusion for all, regardless of age, gender, disability, race, ethnicity, origin, religion or economic status. This means giving everyone equal opportunities for employment, education and other basic services. The goal is also to ensure that human migration and mobility take place in an orderly, safe and responsible manner. In addition, Global Goal 10 focuses on reducing inequality within and among countries by promoting fair income distribution, improving the representation of developing countries in international decision-making, and strengthening social protection for the most vulnerable. Through these measures, the goal is to create a world where everyone has equal opportunities and no one is left behind.

11. Sustainable cities and communities

Global Goal 11 focuses on making cities and communities inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable. This means ensuring that everyone has access to affordable housing and basic services such as clean water and sanitation. It also aims to develop sustainable transportation systems that are accessible to all, including vulnerable groups such as women, children, the elderly and people with disabilities. It also works to reduce the environmental impact of cities through better waste management and air quality. Protecting cultural and natural heritage is also an important component, as is creating green and public spaces for all to enjoy. Finally, increasing the resilience of cities to disasters is important to make them more resilient to natural disasters and other crises.

12. Responsible consumption

Global Goal 12 ensures the sustainable use of natural resources. This means using what the earth gives us sparingly. Governments must make sustainable purchases. We also want to reduce food waste and waste. It is important to produce less waste by prevention and recycling. Waste must be managed responsibly and pollution must be reduced. The goal is to make consumption and production patterns more sustainable.

13. Climate Action

Global Goal 13 is about increasing resilience and adaptation to climate risks. This means being better prepared for natural disasters such as floods, droughts and storms. This includes reducing greenhouse gas emissions, promoting renewable energy sources and protecting forests and other natural ecosystems. 14. Life in the water

Global Goal 14 is concerned with stopping pollution caused on land. This means reducing waste and pollution in the sea. It is also about sustainable management of coastal ecosystems, such as beaches and mangroves, so that these areas remain healthy. In addition, Global Goal 14 focuses on the sustainable use of marine resources, such as fish and other marine products, so that we do not deplete them. Curbing overfishing is also important so that fish populations can recover and persist.

Furthermore, Global Goal 14 is about protecting oceans and seas. This means ensuring clean and healthy waters, where animals and plants can live well. The goal is to preserve biodiversity in the oceans and ensure that future generations can also enjoy the wealth of the sea.

15. Living on the land

Global Goal 15 is about strengthening sustainable use of forests, drylands and biodiversity. This means managing forests better and protecting them from deforestation. Drylands must be restored and used sustainably to prevent desertification. Biodiversity, or the variety of plants and animals, must be preserved and promoted.

In addition, it is important to integrate ecosystem and biodiversity values into national and local planning. This means that governments should consider nature and its benefits, such as clean air, water and food, when making plans and policies.

Global Goal 15 also focuses on combating illegal wildlife trade, preventing invasive species from damaging ecosystems, and promoting equitable sharing of the benefits of genetic resources.

16. Peace, security and strong public services

Global Goal 16 wants to reduce all forms of violence. This means we want less crime and violence. It is also about tackling corruption so that everyone is treated fairly. The goal is to have institutions that are effective, accountable and transparent. This means that governments and organizations must operate fairly and openly.

In addition, Global Goal 16 aims to ensure decision-making that is responsive, participatory and representative. This means that everyone can participate and have their voices heard in decisions. Access to information is also important so that people know what is happening and can protect their rights.

17. Partnership to achieve goals
