Installation of new planters in village center

There is plenty of activity downtown. Not only because of the stores, businesses and shoppers, but also because a lot of work is being done on its redevelopment. As part of the Strengthening Village Center project, large masonry planters will soon be installed to beautify the heart of our village and give it a fresh, green look.

In cooperation with the contractor and the hospitality operators, a detailed plan was drawn up to make the placement of the masonry planters as smooth as possible. This took into account the busy summer period, minimizing inconvenience to visitors and business owners.

Schedule of placement

  • May: Church Street and Langstraat intersection
Starting the week of May 26, the first masonry planters will be placed at the intersection of Church Street and Langstraat.
  • Summer: The event square
During the summer months, the event square will be redesigned. This square is located at the corner of Van Hogendorpstraat and Achterweg and will not only be provided with planters, but also with an atmospheric water element. To ensure that visitors to the center experience as little disruption as possible from the work, special provisions will be made. Think of good partitions and also the terraces will be temporarily moved.
  • Autumn: Langstraat and Van Hogendorpstraat
At the end of the summer season and in the fall, the remaining planters will be installed on Langstraat and Van Hogendorpstraat.

When installing the planters, a crane will be used to lift the large and heavy parts. Due to the use of the crane, the surrounding area will be temporarily cordoned off. In preparation for this work, the crane will already be in use in the center on Thursday, May 22.

Planters will be filled at a later stage

When the planters are placed, they will remain empty for a while. This is because placing the plantings in the bins is the final step in making the center more attractive and green. At the end of the project, new trees and shrubs will appear in the planters throughout the center, creating a refreshing and green streetscape.
