Record number of participants at anniversary edition Swim Run Wassenaar
The Wassenaarse Slag hosted the 30th edition of the Zwemloop Wassenaar, a sporting event that has become a fixture on the calendar, on Sunday, August 31. This year, participants from almost every province in the Netherlands came to the North Sea for a half or full kilometer swim, followed by a 5 or 10 kilometer trail run through the Ganzenhoek. The Duintrailloop, part of the program since 2022, was also popular again.
Alderman Sport Laurens van Doeveren was allowed to give the starting signal. He emphasized the special character of the event: "Thirty editions in which this Swim Run has become a sporting figurehead of Wassenaar. This event brings together not only athletes, but also volunteers and sponsors. It is impressive how, despite the complex organization due to three different permit areas, this is made possible every year. That says a lot about the power of cooperation in our community."
The organization was again in the hands of the WZK Tri-Team, with support from sponsors, volunteers and the Wassenaar Reddingsbrigade. The title for fastest Wassenaar lady went to Joke Duijnisveld with a time of 1:44:28 and the title for fastest Wassenaar gentleman went to Jeroen Bergmans with a time of 1:23:55.
