Smart measuring van measures air quality in Wassenaar

Clean air is important for Wassenaar. That is why Alderman Wim Koetsier, together with Dunea's dune warden Jerry Meijs, went to see Dunea's special electric truck, which measures air quality, to see how this is done. This car not only collects (stray) waste, but also continuously measures the air quality with a special air sensor on top of the car. In addition, a sensor is placed on a Dunea car that drives through the dunes every day. Together with the other (mobile) air sensors in Wassenaar, this gives a good overall picture of the air quality in Wassenaar.

Caeli app and air quality

Based on the information from the various sensors, residents can see in the Caeli app what the air quality is at that moment. The Caeli app also shows which activities it is better to do or not do at that time, such as airing the house.

Air quality in Wassenaar is generally good. In 2024 the European standards for particulate matter (PM2.5 and PM10) and nitrogen (NO2) are not exceeded that is good news. However, Wassenaar has two specific sources that affect air quality at certain times: transportation and wood burning. Therefore, the Wassenaar municipality and Dunea remain committed to sustainable transportation and sensible wood combustion.

Alderman Wim Koetsier: "Clean air is important for everyone in Wassenaar. With this smart measuring truck, we can better monitor air quality and where we can possibly improve. This is how we keep our environment healthy and livable."
