Wassenaar celebrates Neighborhood Day 2025
During Neighborhood Day 2025 on Saturday, September 27, Wassenaar was all about getting together. Local residents came together in different corners of the village: with coffee, games, barbecues and other activities. Eleven resident groups had officially registered with the Oranje Fonds, but many other neighborhoods also showed that Burendag is alive and well in Wassenaar.
From De Plataan to Weteringpark and from Dr. Doelman Avenue to Hillenaar Avenue. Everywhere the street was transformed into a place for meeting. Children played on a bouncy castle, lunch was served together, neighborhood benches were placed and even a playground was festively opened.
Aldermen visiting
Councilors Ronald Zoutendijk and Laurens van Doeveren visited various activities, including neighborhood association Weteringpark I. They spoke with residents there. Both were impressed by the involvement in the village. That Neighborhood Day now has a permanent place in the village calendar is evident not only from the turnout, but also from the reuse of materials from previous years. A sign that the initiative is truly rooted.
Alderman Ronald Zoutendijk (welfare and neighborhoods): "What struck me is how nice it is to seek out and meet each other in a pleasant atmosphere, where neighbors get to know each other better and can do something for each other. Neighborhood Day fits nicely with what we like to see as a municipality: residents themselves take the initiative to keep their surroundings pleasant and involved. That is valuable and deserves recognition."
Appreciation by the municipality
Like every year, the Neighborhood Management team set out with cookies, as a token of appreciation for all the efforts. "We see how much energy and commitment there is in the neighborhoods. That deserves appreciation and shows how important it is to meet," the team said.
Alderman Laurens van Doeveren: "At the neighborhood associations I visited, you really felt how people enjoyed coming together. People laughed, ate together and cared for each other. Small initiatives really make a difference. You notice that people enjoy taking time for each other. As a municipality, we greatly appreciate that commitment and it shows how involved our neighborhoods are."
Looking ahead to NLdoet
The municipality thanks all residents who made Neighborhood Day a success. The national volunteer initiative NLdoet will follow in March 2026. Once again Wassenaar will show what is possible when residents work together for their neighborhood.
