Senior GIS /GEO application administrator

What do you do in your job / what does your day look like?

I am responsible for applications related to public notifications, public space management and public space design. Besides functional application management, I am also responsible for the orders for aerial photos and mutation alerts. I am also involved in coordinating the various links and contacts with vendor companies for updates, changes in the applications, updates in the equipment and applications used in the waste and cleaning and public space disciplines.

My day starts with checking that applications are working properly, checking mail with requests for accounts, passwords or problems with applications. I often get requests to find certain notifications or create reports. If we have problems with an application, I have to reproduce the error and find out the reason for the problem. If I cannot resolve it myself, I have to create a ticket with ICT or the software vendor, then I also have to check if it is resolved in a timely manner. For ongoing projects, I have to coordinate many aspects such as communication about the project, preparing work files for the project, checking progress of activities, suggesting improvements, etc. The files for public space disciplines also need to be updated regularly. Every day is fortunately different.

What is your background? Where have you worked before?

I am originally from Kazakhstan and came to the Netherlands in 2004 to marry my love Adrian. After passing the Dutch language course and diploma for Staatsexamen II (for universities) in one year, I started working for an engineering company. Then I completed my post HBO GIS training and started working through the Nieuwland secondment company in various semi- and government organizations such as NS Poort, Noord-Holland province, Hoogheemraadschap Hollands Noorderkwartier and Noordwijkerhout municipality.

What do you encounter in your work: what is difficult and what makes it fun?

What do I like in my job: I like helping other people, finding solutions to problems. What I find difficult is that the solution takes too long and we depend on the problems in the equipment. I find special that in my work I get a lot of trust from my supervisor, can always ask for help from colleagues and have freedom to carry out assignments with other colleagues. The atmosphere is quite informal and full of trust.

Why did you choose the municipality of Wassenaar, what do you like about it? And what makes the work diverse and challenging?

I chose Wassenaar because it is a very beautiful and stable municipality, one of the best municipalities in the Netherlands to live and work. I am glad that I can make my contribution to make our municipality even cleaner and better for the residents. That is also where the challenge lies: nowadays people have more demands regarding their environment and also want problems to be solved quickly.

If you were to recommend working at Wassenaar Municipality to new colleagues what would you name as pluses?

Plus points: Good atmosphere, informal and confident, many opportunities for training, good salary and additional Requirements and beautiful environment. Today we have online academy where you can choose different courses, training budget in the form of IKB (individual choice budget) and departmental budget.

What do you think is the most beautiful place in Wassenaar, where do you like to come?

Meijendel I think is one of the most beautiful places in Wassenaar. Very nice area for walks.

What is your biggest hobby and what is your home situation like?

I am married and I have 2 daughters aged 11 and 15. We live near the beautiful green area where we love to hike. My greatest hobbies are cooking, baking and clay pigeon shooting. Last year I became Dutch champion in two disciplines.
