Castle Day; May 22–25
From Friday, May 22, through Monday, May 25, the Netherlands will once again be celebrating National Castle Day 2026. During the Pentecost weekend, castles, country estates, and manors across the country will open their gates to the public. This year’s theme is “Love”: from romantic relationships and secret encounters to family ties, friendships, and stories of loyalty and loss.
Several unique venues in Wassenaar are also participating in the event. Visitors can explore ’t Hertenhuisje, Land van Ons, Landgoed Rust en Vreugd, and Kasteel Oud Wassenaar. This year, Villa Ruys and Het Baljuwhuis are also part of the program for the first time.
Since Huis De Paauw, Wassenaar’s town hall, is closed for restoration work, Atelier De Paauw serves as a special starting point for a visit to the estate this year.
Castle Day is held annually to raise awareness of Dutch heritage. Across the Netherlands, hundreds of castles, country estates, and historic manors participate by offering guided tours, exhibitions, walks, and cultural activities for people of all ages.
