Electric driving
The increase in electric cars is a great step towards a sustainable Wassenaar.
For residents who have no way to charge an electric car on their own property, the municipality offers public charging stations.
Requesting charging stations
If you live or work in Wassenaar and own an all-electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle, but do not have the ability to charge the vehicle on your own property, you can apply for a charging station through www.laadpaalnodig.nl/wassenaar. On the website www.evmaps.nl you can see where a charging station is located in your area and whether an application for a charging station in your area has already been submitted.
Requirements for requesting a charging station:
- You live or work in Wassenaar.
- You do not have your own parking lot or the ability to charge your vehicle in a parking garage.
- There is no charging station within 200 meters walking distance that you can use.
- You own (or have a purchase/lease agreement) an all-electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle (four-wheeled).
- You have a parking permit if the application location is in a paid parking area.
- You drive at least 10,000 km per year electrically (this is about 2,000 kWh of charged electricity per year).
Have you applied for a charging station? Check the status of your application on the website of network operator Equans.
When is a charging station installed?
A charging station will not be installed until a local resident has applied for a charging station. The application is reviewed against our policy adopted in October 2020. Thus, someone who can park on their own property cannot request a charging station in the public space. Until a charging station is in place, parking spaces will remain available to everyone.
A charging station has two connections
When a charging station is installed, one parking space is designated as a charging station. With sufficient usage, the second parking space near the charging station also becomes a charging station.
Charging station malfunctions
If a charging station malfunctions, please contact the malfunction service via 088 - 369 29 14, quoting the charging station number. The breakdown service is available 24/7. In many cases, the fault can be fixed immediately, remotely.
Charging cables across the sidewalk
It is not allowed in Wassenaar to lay charging cables over the sidewalk. So you cannot place a charging station in your front yard and run the cable across the public road to your car. If you can park on your own property then you can place a charging point on your own property.
New charging rate for charging stations
As of January 1, 2025, the new charging rate of charging stations is €0.48 per kWh charged (including VAT). This applies to all charging poles within the SGZH 2.0 contract that the municipality has with Equans. This charging rate is composed of several cost components of which only the purchase price of energy may be indexed annually as of January 1, 2023. This is done, as contractually agreed, based on the CBS Household Energy Index. The old tariff for the charge posts within the SGZH 1.0 contract will be €0.39 because the energy tax subsidy has expired.
Compare charging passes
You can compare the different charge cards on the website laadpaswijzer.nl.
