Event organizing

Important information:

On June 24 and 25, The Hague will host the NATO Summit. This also affects the accessibility of events in Wassenaar.

We advise against organizing an event from Friday, June 20 to Friday, June 27. This is because the accessibility of your event is not guaranteed because roads around The Hague will be closed for several days.

Do you want to organize a larger, new event? Then, due to the NATO Summit, this is not possible in the months of May and June. Therefore, there is no point in applying for this anyway.

For other events, the municipality (possibly in cooperation with the police) assesses the feasibility of the event you wish to organize during the NATO Summit period. We may contact you for the further procedure of organizing the event.

You will read more about the NATO summit soon on the website.

An event is an event open to the public. Do you want to organize a large event, such as a fair, parade, party, festival, pop concert or sports competition on the public road? Then apply for an event permit from the municipality. Events that take place on private property may also require a permit. If you have questions about this, contact the municipality.

  • You only need to report a small event to the municipality.
  • An event falls under the small event category if:
  • the number of attendees does not exceed 60 people;
  • the event takes place between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m;
  • No music is played before 7 a.m. or after 11 p.m;
  • the event does not take place on the roadway, (moped) bike path or parking lot or otherwise impede traffic and emergency services;
  • only small objects are placed with an area of less than 15 m2 per object;
  • there is an organizer; and
  • the organizer has notified the mayor at least 14 working days prior to the event.

Fill out the eform for this as well.

For all applications and notifications, submit the application and attachments as timely as possible.

What to do

For a permit application, you need a lot of information. Below is the most important information:

  • name of the organizer
  • name of the contact person at the event
  • description of activities at the event
  • date and time of the event
  • date and time of building and dismantling the event
  • expected number of visitors or participants
  • available emergency crews, such as first aid and security
  • Whether streets should be closed
  • anticipated noise (type, time, location)
  • method of power supply
  • Whether you serve weak alcoholic beverages
  • drawing of the event site or the route of a parade, for example
  • technical data on structures on the event site
  • how and by whom the site or route will be cleaned up afterwards

Submission deadline

An application for a licensed event must be submitted in full at least 8 weeks prior to the day of the event.

An application for a licensed major event must be completely submitted at least 13 weeks before the day of the event. This often also requires a safety plan. You will be notified by the municipality upon receipt of your application if this is required.

An application for a notifiable event must be completely submitted at least 14 working days before the day of the event.

Subsequent applications will not be processed.
