Income Support
Do you have a low income? Then you can sometimes get help from the municipality for, for example, a laptop or to pay for a school trip. Wassenaar municipality cooperates with Leidschendam-Voorburg municipality for this purpose.
You will find information per scheme below. When you apply for the scheme, you will be directed to the website of the municipality of Leidschendam-Voorburg.
Computer, tablet and internet arrangement
Do you have a low income? Then you may be able to get reimbursement for a computer, laptop, tablet or internet subscription for your school-age child(ren). Please wait to purchase until your application is approved.
If you receive a benefit, you can apply for this allowance digitally by clicking on one of the buttons below. This will take you directly to the digital environment of the municipality of Leidschendam-Voorburg. You log in with DigiD. Then you can submit your application.
Requesting PC or internet subscription
Are you not receiving benefits? Then you can call 14 070 to arrange your application. You apply for the scheme at the municipality of Leidschendam-Voorburg. Therefore, choose option 2.
Requirements
- After you apply for the scheme, you will receive our response within 8 weeks
- You and your child(ren) are registered in Wassenaar
- Your child is in secondary education, secondary vocational education or is in grade 7 or 8 at elementary school. A tablet is intended for children from secondary education or intermediate vocational education onwards
- Your income is up to 130% of the social assistance standard and your assets are below the asset limit
- Send a quote stating type of computer and purchase amount
Level of compensation
- Computer or laptop: per household, you can receive reimbursement of up to €540 once every 5 years
- Tablet: per child, you can receive reimbursement of up to €310 once every 5 years. This is only for children in secondary or intermediate vocational education
- Internet costs: a household from Leidschendam-Voorburg, Voorschoten or Wassenaar can receive a reimbursement of €20 per month.
Personal request
If you do not have benefits, you cannot submit the application digitally. You can call 14 070. You apply for the scheme at the municipality of Leidschendam-Voorburg. They will send you an application form or ask you to come by for an appointment with a consultant. Send or take the following supporting documents with you:
- Details of your family income (pay stub)
- Details of your assets, such as bank statements of all your accounts for the last 3 months. And also proof of a car or own home, and the like
- Proof of your living expenses (e.g., your lease)
- Proof that your child is attending school (for example, a letter from the school showing your child's name)
- Quote indicating the type and purchase amount of the computer, tablet, laptop or Internet subscription
Reimbursement of school, cultural, sports expenses
Do you have a low income? Then you may be able to get an allowance for school, cultural or sports costs of your school-going child(ren). For example, to pay for a school trip, exercise books, books or a bicycle. You can apply for this once per school year (between August 1 and July 31).

Applying for basic education allowance
Applying for secondary education allowance
Not receiving benefits? Call 14 070 to arrange your application. You apply for the allowance at the municipality of Leidschendam-Voorburg. Therefore, choose option 2.
Requirements
- After you apply for the scheme, you will receive our response within 8 weeks
- You and your child(ren) are registered in Wassenaar
- Your income is below 130% of the social assistance standard and your assets are below the asset limit
- Your child is under 18 years of age (the age on August 1 is decisive)
- Your child is enrolled in a school
Level of allowance
- Elementary school: €238 per child
- Secondary education: €500 per child
- Please note that at maximum income of 110% you will get 100% of the amount. At maximum income between 110% and 130% you will receive 50% of the amount
- You can also use the Social Participation Scheme
After your request
You will hear as soon as possible whether you will receive the compensation. Often after just a few days, but in any case within 8 weeks. Then we will transfer the money to you within 1 week.
Special assistance
Special assistance is for special expenses. These are extra costs in case of illness, a disability or another reason. For example, costs for legal assistance or dental costs.
These are costs that are not part of the normal costs of living, that you cannot pay yourself and are not reimbursed (e.g. by your health insurance). You can apply for special assistance at the municipality.
High Healthcare Costs Scheme
The program is for residents with an income of up to 130% of the social assistance standard applicable to them and who have €300 or more in necessary healthcare costs that are not covered by their health insurance. These are healthcare costs for:
- Eyeglasses and contact lenses (once every three years)
- User Fee for Wmo Support
- Co-payment forHealth Home
- Copayment for prescription medications
- Physical Therapy
- Exercise Therapy
- Dentistry and Orthodontics
- Pregnancy and Childbirth
Requirements
- You are 18 years of age or older and a resident of the municipality of Wassenaar.
- Your income may not exceed 130% of thesocial assistance standard.
- Your assets are below the nationalasset threshold.
- In 2026, you spent €300 or more on non-reimbursed healthcare costs for yourself or your child(ren).
Request
You can apply for the High Healthcare Costs Program starting July 1, 2026. At that time, you can only apply for healthcare costs incurred in 2026.
Expense Report Summary
If the answer to at least one of the questions below is “yes,” then you do not need to submit an expense report. However, you must submit supporting documentation proving that you belong to the target group.
- Do you pay a personal contribution for Wmo?
- Do you have a Wlz indication for Health Home with a duration of at least 1 year?
- For healthcare costs related to pregnancy and childbirth: do you have a pregnancy certificate? Or was the child in question born in the Netherlands and have you registered them in the BRP?
- Do you have a disability parking permit that is valid for at least 1 year?
- In other cases, you must submit a statement of expenses to the health insurer, listing the costs for which you are submitting the claim
Benefit
If you receive benefits, the claim summary alone is sufficient. If you do not receive benefits, we will need the following information from you:
- Information about your living situation
- Details of your family income (pay stub)
- Information about your assets, such as bank statements for all your accounts from the past 3 months, proof of car ownership or home ownership, etc.
- Proof of your housing costs (lease agreement, etc.)
- Supporting documentation for the expenses for which you are submitting the application (pro forma invoice, quote, etc.)
Amount of money
Depending on their income, residents receive the following:
- €300 for those with an income of up to 110% of the applicable social assistance standard
- €150 for those with an income between 110% and 130% of the applicable social assistance standard
Regulations for the Chronically Ill and Disabled
From January 1, 2026, it will no longer be possible to apply for special assistance for the chronically ill and disabled. The new High Healthcare Costs scheme will replace this.
The new High Healthcare Costs Regulation
From July 1, 2026, you can apply for the new High Healthcare Costs scheme. The scheme is for residents with an income of up to 130% of the social assistance standard applicable to them. And who, in 2026, incur €300 or more in healthcare costs that are not reimbursed by their health insurance. They will receive a cash payment from the municipality.

The allowance
- Residents with an income of up to 110% of the social assistance standard applicable to them will receive a subsidy of €300.
- Residents with an income between 110% and 130% of the social assistance standard applicable to them will receive a subsidy of €150.
Applying for the High Healthcare Costs Scheme
From July 1, 2026, you can submit an application for the high healthcare costs scheme. Your application may also cover healthcare costs incurred between January 1, 2026, and July 1, 2026.
Arrangements for state pension beneficiaries
Are you AOW entitled and on a low income? Then you may be entitled to an allowance for the cost of sports, culture and newspaper or telephone subscriptions. You may also be entitled to extra money for the purchase of durable consumer goods, such as a washing machine (white goods scheme). You can call 14 070 to arrange your application. You apply for the allowance at the municipality of Leidschendam-Voorburg. Therefore, choose option 2.
Sports, culture and subscriptions
- Compensation amount: maximum €151
- Reimbursed once a year
Durable consumer goods
- Compensation amount: maximum €760
- Reimbursed once every 3 years
Requirements
- Your income is up to 110% of the welfare standard
- For reimbursement of durable consumer goods, your income must not have exceeded 110% of the social assistance standard for the past 3 years
- Your assets are below the asset limit
Social participation scheme
Do you have a low income? Then you can receive an allowance to participate in social, cultural and sports activities. If you receive a benefit, you can apply for this allowance digitally by clicking on the button below. Social participation scheme applications
Are you not receiving Social assistance benefit? Then you can call 14 070 to arrange your application. You apply for the scheme through the municipality of Leidschendam-Voorburg. Therefore, choose option 2.
Requirements
- After you apply for the scheme, you will receive our response within 8 weeks
- You are registered in Wassenaar. If you are also applying for your child he or she must also be registered in Wassenaar
- Your income is up to 130% of the social assistance standard and your assets are below the asset limit
- Health make sure you keep supporting documents of the expenses you incur. You may be subject to spot checks afterwards
Fees
Please note that at maximum income of 110% you will get 100% of the amount. At maximum income between 110% and 130% you will receive 50% of the amount if you have a live-in child up to 17 years old. The reimbursement is a maximum of €205 per person.
Municipal policy: group health insurance
The municipality will discontinue the municipal policy as of January 1, 2026. This means that you must switch to a new health insurance policy before December 31, 2025. Alternatively, you can remain insured with Menzis without the municipal policy. In that case, you do not need to take any action.
The new High Healthcare Costs Regulation
From July 1, 2026, you can apply for the new High Healthcare Costs scheme. The scheme is for residents with an income of up to 130% of the social assistance standard applicable to them. And who, in 2026, incur €300 or more in healthcare costs that are not reimbursed by their health insurance. They will receive a cash payment from the municipality.

Individual income supplement
The individual income supplement is for people who have a low income for an extended period of time. You receive this benefit if you have no prospect of improving your income.
