Filing a complaint

If you feel you have not been treated properly by an official or administrator, you can file a complaint with the municipality. You can file a complaint about:

  • the personal treatment by employees, administrators or organization
  • getting too little, incorrect or misleading information
  • failure to respond to your inquiries

How can I file a complaint?

Written
A complaint can be filed in writing. You can address your complaint to an administrative body of the municipality of Wassenaar. Usually this is the Municipal Executivepostbus 499, 2240 AL Wassenaar).

Your complaint must state:

  • That it is a complaint;
  • what the complaint is about;
  • Why you are filing a complaint;
  • Your contact information (name, address, phone number, e-mail address);
  • and sign your letter with your signature.

Digital
You can submit your complaint using the digital submission form.

How will my complaint be handled?

When your complaint comes to the municipality, we first look at how best to resolve it.

Informal handling
The municipality initially tries to handle complaints informally. In this case, our complaint handler will contact you by telephone to discuss your complaint and see how it can be resolved. In this way, we want to ensure that you are still satisfied. If you are not satisfied with the informal handling, a formal handling of your complaint will follow.

Formal processing
After completing a comprehensive investigation, the complaint handler issues an opinion and may make recommendations to the College of Mayor and Aldermen. Based on that advice, the college decides whether the complaint is justified and whether the recommendations are adopted.

How long will it take?
The complaint will be handled within the statutory period of six weeks from receipt of the complaint. We will send you a notice if we extend the deadline.

More information on handling complaints can be found in the following link: Wassenaar Complaints Ordinance.
