What is student transportation?

Student transportation is a reimbursement or provision from the municipality for the costs of traveling to school when a child is unable to do so independently.

Parents

The municipality always considers what form of support is necessary and appropriate. Parents remain responsible for transportation, but receive assistance if they are unable to organize this themselves or if a child still needs to learn how to do so.

Transportation

If you need support from the municipality, there are various forms of transport and reimbursement available. These include transport by bicycle, public transport, adapted transport (bus or taxi), and transport by private car. These forms of transport are available with or without assistance.

Students and education

School transportation is for:

• Students with a structural disability who are unable to travel independently.

• Students who attend a specialized school or special needs school more than 6 km from home.

• Students in special needs education, vocational special needs education, special needs education, or mainstream education who are unable to travel independently due to a disability.

Please note: parents have freedom of choice when it comes to education. This means that you can choose a school that suits your child. However, school transport is only funded to the nearest accessible school. Please take this into account when registering your child and submitting an application.
