Agreement signed for new construction project on Van Rechterenstraat in Wassenaar
On Thursday, January 15, our managing director Isis
Desumma and Alderman Ritske Bloemendaal signed a letter of intent for the construction of new apartments on Van Rechterenstraat in Wassenaar. This project, which fits in with the municipality's housing vision, will result in 48 affordable and energy-efficient social
rental apartments. As a housing association, we are thus contributing to solving the housing shortage in Wassenaar and helping more people find a home.
Affordable and energy-efficient apartments
The nine single-family homes on Van Rechterenstraat and Van Heemstraweg will be demolished later this year. After demolition, 48 two- and three-room apartments will be built in their place. The apartments are suitable for first-time buyers, people over 55, and those looking to move up the property ladder. The ground floor will feature a bicycle parking facility and space for a number of mobility scooters. Isis Desumma: "There is a significant shortage of affordable housing in Wassenaar. The average waiting time is currently 6.5 years. This puts many people in Wassenaar in a difficult position. It is wonderful that this project will enable us to offer many people a new, energy-efficient, and affordable home in 2027." Alderman adds: "It is good that we can sign the letter of intent today. This project has been in the works for some time and once again underlines how valuable good cooperation between the housing associations and the municipality is, now and in the future. By solving bottlenecks together and working in parallel, real progress can be made in the social housing stock."
Accelerated procedure thanks to support from the Haaglanden Acceleration Table
We worked closely with the municipality of Wassenaar on this
new-build project. Thanks to the support of the Haaglanden Regional Acceleration Table (RVTH) and the expertise of the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO), the lead time for this new-build project was significantly reduced. This meant that bottlenecks were resolved at an early stage, allowing agreements to be reached more quickly.
Planning
We hope to start demolishing the nine single-family homes in mid-2026. Construction of the apartment building will then begin. If everything goes according to plan, we expect to complete the apartments by the end of 2027.
Local residents will be informed
We keep residents and neighbors of Van Rechterenstraat and Van Heemstraweg informed about the planning and progress of this project via our website and periodic newsletters.
