Partnership for Youth Primary Care Assistants Extended Through 2030
The Municipality of Wassenaar, the Wassenaar Regional Association of General Practitioners, and Indigo Haaglanden have signed a new cooperation agreement for the deployment of the Youth General Practice Support Worker (POH-J). Indigo Haaglanden provides Health support for mental health issues and works closely with general practitioners. The agreement extends the partnership for the period from April 1, 2026, through December 31, 2030.
Since 2020, the Youth Primary Care Nurse has been active in general practices in Wassenaar. The Youth General Practice Support Worker (POH-J) offers accessible support to young people and their parents with questions regarding, for example, behavior, parenting, or mental health. The support worker collaborates closely with the general practitioner and with partners in the local youth sector, such as the Wassenaar Social Team. When necessary, a young person or family can be referred to appropriate support through this collaboration.
General practitioners also experience the importance of the Youth Practice Support Specialist on a daily basis. Irina van Dongen, representative of the Wassenaar Regional Association of General Practitioners, says: “The general practitioner is often a key point of contact when a young person or family needs support. The involvement of the Youth Practice Support Worker helps us respond quickly, assess the situation thoroughly, and provide appropriate assistance or make targeted referrals. The collaboration with the municipality and Indigo Haaglanden helps us support young people in Wassenaar better and faster.”
Faster, more appropriate support for young people and parents
With the extension of this partnership, this form of support will remain available in the coming years. The involvement of the POH-J helps identify problems early on and provide support where possible. This allows for better-informed referrals to specialized youth services and helps Health more serious Health .
Ritske Bloemendaal, Alderman Affairs, emphasizes the importance of the partnership:
“The partnership with general practitioners and Indigo Haaglanden has been working well for years. By extending this agreement, we ensure that young people and their parents can continue to receive support quickly and close to home in the coming years. The Youth General Practice Support Worker plays an essential role in this.”
Collaboration in the field of youth services
With this new agreement, the municipality, general practitioners, and Indigo Haaglanden are underscoring their shared commitment to ensuring that young people in Wassenaar can grow up healthy and safe and receive timely, appropriate support.
