However, there is a chance that you may purchase a stolen product and unwittingly become guilty of handling stolen goods. Handling stolen goods, also known as buying stolen items, is a criminal offense. You can take a few simple steps to ensure that the product you are purchasing has not been reported stolen. By doing so, you are helping to increase the chances of catching receivers and thieves, thereby making burglary and theft less attractive. 

What can I do?

  • Check your second-hand purchases. Visitwww.stopheling.nland check in advance whether the second-hand item is registered as stolen.
  • Register your belongings. You can register valuable items in the Stop Heling app. This app is user-friendly and has been specially developed for your smartphone. Valuable items include your cell phone, television, sound system, jewelry, and bicycle. These registrations are not stored in a database and are only accessible to you.
  • Make your phone traceable. Most phones allow you to set up a "Find My Phone" or "Locate My Phone" feature. This will help you locate your phone if it is lost or stolen.
