Storm and Schouwweg

Laying last brick Jan. 31, 2025

With the laying of the last brick at the intersection of Storm van 's-Gravesandeweg and Schouwweg, Alderman Wim Koetsier and both neighborhood associations celebrated the completion of work on Storm-Zuid and Schouwweg-Noord. Residents were actively involved in the design process, which ultimately resulted in a widely supported design.

During redesign, both roads were designed as an ETW 30 road, with cyclists riding on the road. In addition, the main sewer was replaced, better parking spaces were constructed and the sidewalks were widened. New trees and other greenery were also planted.

The laying of the last stone marked an intensive period of work that makes the area not only more beautiful, but also more sustainable and better prepared for the future. We are immensely proud of the results achieved and would like to thank everyone for their efforts, patience, time and dedication. Thanks to these joint efforts, the neighborhood is now better prepared for the future, with improved infrastructure and a greener streetscape.

Alderman Koetsier: 'Nice that the work is really finished now. Many streets were often closed due to work, which caused inconvenience, but that is now over. Contractor Fronik Infra B.V. did a really good job, fulfilled its agreements and kept the neighborhood well informed about the work. Last but not least, the contractor delivered the work on time and within budget. And the result, we are proud of it!

Update March 12, 2024 Shouwweg and bike path

The redesign of the Schouwweg-north is keeping the minds busy. Therefore, Wassenaar municipality has listened much and carefully to the needs of residents and petitioners. In January and February, the municipality entered into discussions with residents of the Schouwweg-noord and other stakeholders about the layout of the Schouwweg-noord, supported by (traffic) experts in the field.

As a municipality, we must weigh the interests of all road users, residents, businesses and emergency and emergency services when undertaking a redesign. Although the municipality stands behind the original design for Schouwweg-north, we want to emphasize that we are also open to alternative solutions. Therefore, the municipality has put forward a new proposal for the current bike path. This alternative variant provides an additional option for vulnerable road users and emphasizes the green character and rural appearance of the area. The proposed design includes the construction of a semi-paved path, which can be used by anyone, whether cyclist or walker.

At one of the soon-to-be council meetings, the council may decide on the alternative.

Planning

Work will begin in January 2024. Here we will first work in phases 1 to 12 (colored blue on the Map below). Then, after May 21, 2024, we will carry out work on the Schouwweg. These are phases 14 to 24 (colored yellow on the Map). Finally, we are working in phases 5, 6 and 13 (colored red on the Map). The work is expected to be completed by the end of 2024.

Caution! Road work is weather sensitive. In case of bad weather, it is possible that the work will be delayed or postponed. We will announce schedule changes in the application (see below) and on this web page.

Accessibility

During the work, the road will be closed to through traffic. In addition, it is not possible to park your car within our work area. The homes will remain accessible via walkways. You can cross them on foot or by bike. Garbage can be deposited on the side of the work area. We will make arrangements with Avalex for the collection of household waste.

We inform emergency and rescue services of our work and detour. We make sure they can always reach your home.
