Safety Inspection: Residents and the Municipality Map Out Safety in Wassenaar

The municipality of Wassenaar organized a safety inspection in response to a previous survey on safety in public spaces. The municipal council called for attention to be paid to the safety of women and LGBTQIA+ individuals in our municipality. With approximately 200 responses from residents, targeted input was gathered, which the municipality used to determine the route and key areas of focus for the inspection.

Together with residents, community organizations, and partners such as the police and law enforcement, the municipality visited various locations in Wassenaar. During the inspection, the team examined factors such as lighting, dark areas, sightlines, and the use of public spaces.

Working Together to Make Wassenaar a Safe Place

The purpose of the safety inspection is to Map areas in Wassenaar that could Map safer and to address these issues in collaboration with residents and partners. The feedback and suggestions gathered will be used to develop an action plan and, where possible, incorporated into future measures.

“By literally taking to the streets together with residents and partners, we gain a clear picture of where improvements can be made. It is precisely this combination of residents’ experiences and our partners’ expertise that allows us to work more effectively toward solutions. In this way, we are taking concrete steps to make Wassenaar safer for everyone,” said Mayor Leendert de Lange.
