Wassenaar pauses to remember traffic victims
Every third Sunday of November, the annual commemoration of traffic victims takes place. This initiative comes from the international organization FEVR (Fédération Européenne des Victimes de la Route), which means that all member countries commemorate their traffic victims on the same day.
National commemoration in Den Bosch
This year the national commemoration took place on Sunday, November 16, in Den Bosch. This year's theme is "Dreams Gone" and that was not chosen lightly: bereaved families regularly talk about the dreams of their loved one(s) gone by and the lingering emptiness within the family circle, group of friends or among colleagues. Listening to the stories and memories of loved ones makes further life more bearable. This is how traffic victims get a lasting face, especially on this day of remembrance on the third Sunday in November.
Commemoration at the monument in Wassenaar
People in Wassenaar also remembered the traffic victims. In their memory a flower arrangement was laid at the memorial in Wassenaar. This monument, one of six in the Netherlands, was placed in 2003 in response to a tragic accident on the Rijksstraatweg. The memorial stone stands at the end of the path from Raadhuis De Paauw to Rijksstraatweg, near the bridge.
The flower arrangement was laid by Traffic Alderman Wim Koetsier in the presence of Traffic Victims Association volunteer Jetty van der Werff, after which they held a minute of silence for the traffic victims.
