The annual weed control campaign is getting underway

With more trees than residents, Wassenaar is one of the greenest municipalities in the Netherlands. Every year, the more than 26,000 trees shed their leaves. Exactly when this happens depends on factors such as wind and rain. Wet leaves, in particular, can cause slippery conditions and disruptions on roads, bike paths, and sidewalks.

The municipality’s field staff are therefore fully engaged in leaf cleanup from November through February. Employees from the municipality, Provalu, VeegMij, and Van der Holsten are working together on this. Fallen leaves are blown to collection points, where they are then vacuumed up with special machines and hauled away for composting.

Together, we’ll keep Wassenaar clean and safe

Every year, many residents help keep their streets and neighborhoods clean and safe. We greatly appreciate their commitment. To make it easier to collect leaves from public spaces, the city has placed leaf bins at various locations. These are emptied regularly throughout the season.

You can find the leaf bins at the following locations:

  • Hoogheemraadstraat
  • Van Groenevelt Avenue
  • Fresia Square
  • From Polanen Park
  • Van Duivenvoordelane
  • Princess Marielaan
  • Mayor Staab Avenue
  • Ridderlaan
  • Burchtlaan
  • Kievietslaan (2x)
  • Julianaweg
  • Prins Hendrik Avenue
  • Wilhelmina Square
  • Bommellaan (2x)
  • Raaphorst Avenue

Help us use the leaf bins properly

The leaf bins are intended for leaves from public areas. You may not dispose of yard waste or other private green waste in them. You can drop off this waste for free at the recycling center or through municipal collection services.
