Municipal yard
In mid-2026, the municipality will start remediating the municipal yard on the Johan de Wittstraat. The plan for the remediation was adopted by the municipal council at the end of 2023. The activities currently taking place at the municipal yard will be given another location. The city council will decide on this in mid-2025.
Implementation of municipal yard remediation step further
From March 19 to April 30, 2024, the remediation plan for the municipal yard was available for inspection. Only after the municipal office and municipal yard activities are relocated to another location can the municipality begin preparations for the actual remediation. These preparations are scheduled to begin in mid-2025. This is because that is when the new municipal yard will be in use.
Participation meeting
On April 17, the second meeting on the remediation and new plans for the municipal yard was held. At the first meeting held Dec. 7, 2023, the questions of visitors, were collected. From this, a list of questions and answers was published. These can be downloaded at the bottom of the page. The plans were then further developed. Residents were asked at the second meeting to contribute ideas and input on the urban design sketches presented April 17. See the presentation at the bottom of the page for this. You will also find this information in the environment app for this project. The draft urban plan, can also be viewed via the environment app (downloadable via the QR code at the bottom of the page).
Housing
In the coming months, the plan for the housing to be built will be further developed. Together with the corporations, a broad program of housing will be developed. This will include life-long senior housing and affordable housing. The municipality assumes the following building categories:
- 30% social
- 40% middle category owner-occupied
- 30% free sector
There is a separate process for participation with residents. We assume that housing construction will begin in 2027.
The housing plan is scheduled for decision by the City Council in early 2025. The goal is at least 100 housing units with underground parking.
Soil pollution: no impact on health
In January 2023, the results of the soil investigation were presented to the immediate neighbors. Concerns were raised about public health because of soil contamination. The remediation plan has since been completed. The investigation shows that the soil is partially seriously contaminated. The contamination is fairly deep and is sufficiently covered. Therefore, the contamination does not affect the health of people working or staying at the yard. Nor does the contamination affect the health of local residents. This is important for the environment and the planning for this project. In consultation with the environmental department, it has been determined that remediation is not necessary at this time.
