Information about the units

Strategy & Communication

The Strategy & Communication unit consists of strategic advisors, communication advisors and district managers. They are respectively responsible for translating the tasks into policy advice, communication and needs research.

The strategic advisors are responsible for, and give direction to, the various social tasks/programs of the municipality. These are defined in the six realization approaches Wassenaar 2030, the Energy Transition and also in the introduction of the Omgevingswet. The strategic advisors support the mayor & aldermen and also the town clerk/general manager in this regard.

The communication advisors contribute to municipal communication and information within the tasks/programs. They do this by providing information through texts on the website, in the newspaper and on social media. The communication is reinforced by supporting visual material, such as photographic material, infographics and video. The employees know what is going on in Wassenaar and respond to the current information needs.

The neighborhood managers work on the livability of Wassenaar. They do this by working 'from the outside in'. They work together with residents, organizations and the 35 neighborhood associations. The district managers investigate what is going on in the neighborhoods and come up with improvement proposals together with residents and organizations. The district managers also maintain contacts with the police and welfare organizations, including youth workers.

Social Development & Support

The Social Development & Support (MO&O) unit is responsible for the well-being and support of people in our society. The unit focuses on various topics within the social domain, including health, sports, education, culture, work and income.

Three subteams can be distinguished within MO&O:

  • Implementation is carried out by the consultants (WMO and youth) and the process directors. They are assisted by the contract managers and quality staff.
  • The administration team supports implementation in the area of payments and administrative changes.
  • Finally, there are more than 15 policy officers in the fields of education, culture, sports, health, youth and adults. Such as supervision of child care, support with subsidies and administration and housing of status holders. There is also a project leader for OKO (growing up in a promising environment) and IZA (integral care agreement).

Licensing, Surveillance & Security

The staff of Permits, Supervision & Safety ensure the safety of public spaces, compliance with administrative regulations and a safe living environment within the municipality. Licenses, Supervision & Safety is a dynamic unit that works closely together in areas such as safety and crisis management, AVP licensing and special laws and events.

Support

The Support Unit consists of colleagues from the Executive Secretariat and Cabinet & Representation, management support staff, project support staff and Facility colleagues. A unit of committed, enthusiastic and motivated employees.

Management & Real Estate

In this unit, professionals are active in managing public space. These include paving, sewerage, greenery, water and technical installations. They act as consultants, contractors and clients. Responsibilities include management, maintenance and replacement of items in public space. The unit ensures that public space remains clean, whole, safe and accessible. Project managers and supervisors initiate and support the execution and realization of the work. In this unit, one is not only manager or administrator of the outdoor space, but also easily engages in conversation with residents. It is important that there is a listening ear and understanding for the impact of activities on residents. Any problems are managed in the process.

Public Space Maintenance

Within this unit we work on the maintenance of public spaces. This ranges from maintenance in the parks, to cleaning and collection. The unit works daily in green spaces and in the streets of Wassenaar. They are therefore very visible and often come into contact with residents. The employees have a listening ear, communicate with residents and think in terms of solutions. This makes them the business card of the municipality.

Spatial Development (RO)

This unit focuses on the development of the physical domain. The employees deal with traffic and mobility, green, water, environment, economic affairs and tourism, housing, urban planning, monuments, cultural heritage and archaeology. The unit was newly formed in September 2021 and is looking forward to it.

Information & Data Management

The unit facilitates colleagues in their work when it comes to setting up the ICT infrastructure (not only the workstations) and dealing with the data processed within it (archives, security, privacy and the link to national facilities). The unit also contributes to the design of digital services for residents, businesses and social institutions. If ICT is your passion, you have an entrepreneurial spirit and you want to contribute to change: then you have come to the right place. I&D is hosted by the municipality of Wassenaar. Through a service agreement (DvO) the municipality of Voorschoten also purchases these services.

HR, Finance & Procurement

The HR, Finance & Purchasing unit supports the organization with advice and procedures when it comes to handling agreed processes in the subject areas. Where policy no longer serves the purpose for which it was created, advice is given on its abolition or adjustment. The unit also advises the board on the efficient, effective, lawful use of resources and also on the interpretation of employership by the municipality. Finally, this unit handles the preparation of Planning and Control products for the college and the council.

Legal Affairs

The Legal Affairs unit supports the organization with specialized legal knowledge. This includes spatial planning, permits, supervision and enforcement. The unit also supports the organization in the field of general private and public law and with applications concerning the Government Information (Public Access) Act. Sometimes the unit also provides direct support to external parties, for example when it comes to objections/appeals/WOB/complaints. Employees of the unit know how to distinguish between real legal and other issues. They are able to resolve these other issues as well.

Customer Contact Center

The Customer Contact Center unit provides the general services most visible to residents. For residents, companies and institutions, they are the gateway to municipal services. This is the unit that hears what is going on with the residents of Wassenaar. Residents' questions, wishes and also complaints are expected to be dealt with in a flexible and pleasant manner. A listening ear and friendly tone play the main role in this.
