About the organization
The municipality is the "first government" and implements national laws and regulations locally. The municipal elections determine the priorities and own (additional) wishes that the Wassenaar community gives to politics. This is reflected in our coalition agreement.
That agreement co-determines our daily work and the products, services and results we deliver as employees of the official organization. It also includes the social tasks we are working on.
Board of Mayor and Aldermen
The College constitutes the day-to-day administration of each municipality, including Wassenaar. It is responsible for preparing and implementing decisions of the municipal council. Examples include the realization of housing projects and the granting of subsidies to institutions and organizations. However, the college also has its own powers and responsibilities, such as granting permits, appointing officials and selling land.
The mayor presides over the college. He works together with the town clerk, who is also general manager. The college meets weekly on Tuesdays in Raadhuis De Paauw. These meetings are not open to the public. However, a public decision list is published after each college meeting.
Each member of the college has his or her own package (portfolio) of issues for which he or she is responsible.
