Can a crosswalk be constructed?

In 30 km/h zones

In principle, no pedestrian crossings are constructed in a 30 km/h zone. In addition, a crosswalk is only possible at locations with a large pedestrian flow at several times of the day, because otherwise too few people will cross, creating false safety.

Within 30 km/h zones, mainly destination traffic drives. Drivers experience whether a crosswalk is used frequently or infrequently. If a zebra is used infrequently, drivers will pay less attention to it and there is a good chance that a crossing pedestrian will not be noticed. This is the false safety of a crosswalk.

On access roads with a speed limit of 50 km/hour

If we also find the location suitable, we can construct a crosswalk with a zebra. If there is a real crossing problem, we prefer to construct a median or center island that allows crossing pedestrians to cross the road in two stages.

A suitable location for a pedestrian crossing is one where there are many crossing movements at several times of the day or throughout the day. The amount of traffic on the road to be crossed also plays a role. On very busy roads, crossing is worse and a pedestrian crossing makes more sense than on quiet roads where there are sufficient opportunities to cross without a pedestrian crossing.
