Crisis Management Advisor
What does your position of crisis management consultant entail?
As crisis management advisor, I advise the board on various topics related to crises. In addition, I Health ensure that the crisis organization of the municipality of Wassenaar is well educated, trained and practiced. What many people do not know is that a municipality also has a role in addition to the police, fire department and medical Health. This is because the municipality is responsible for population care. This includes providing temporary shelter when residents cannot return to their homes due to a house fire, for example.
What do you enjoy doing most in your position?
What I like most about my job is that I get to deal with a lot of topics. Last year it was the corona crisis, where public health was important. And shortly after that came the war in Ukraine, where we as a municipality suddenly had to receive Ukrainian displaced persons. Because of all these different topics, it doesn't make my job boring.

How did you end up at Wassenaar Municipality after your studies?
I actually started working for the municipality of Wassenaar during my studies. I took the dual variant of the integral safety administration course. Here I studied full-time for two years and worked four days a week for two years and went to school one day. After my studies, I stayed on to further develop myself.
And why Wassenaar?
Wassenaar is a small municipality, but with immense content. Wassenaar is unique because of the large amount of natural areas.
What characteristics should a crisis management consultant bring?
A crisis management consultant must be able to exude calm in chaotic moments. During a crisis, people quickly spring into action without thinking things through. As a crisis management consultant, on the contrary, you must be able to think calmly and get an overview of the crisis. When you have an overview of the situation, you can give better advice and take actions.
Can you tell a little more about your team?
I work in the Licenses, Supervision and Security unit. This unit is divided into two teams, including the Public Order and Safety team. Our team is a diverse team with young and older colleagues. In a small municipality, you also work together in a smaller team. As a result, you work together on many topics instead of just focusing on one.
