Muskrat
Muskrats and beaverrats cause a lot of damage. For the safety of the water system and thus the safety of our levees, muskrats and beaverrats are actively controlled.
You can recognize a muskrat by its plump build, broad blunt head and ears almost hidden in its fur. Its back is medium to dark brown, sometimes grayish or chestnut brown; the belly side is lighter in color. It has a rather long laterally flattened tail, but in any case it is shorter than its body (19 - 27.5 cm). Between its toes, the muskrat has small flippers. An adult muskrat is between 28 and 40 centimeters.
