New playground near the skate park is opening

Wassenaar has gained a special gathering place. The former playground at Geesbert van Barneveld Park has been replaced by a larger play and activity area for residents aged 0 to 100, which is nearly complete. If the final work and inspection go smoothly, the fences are expected to be removed on Monday afternoon, September 28. After that, residents will be able to use the new playground.

Accessible Attraction

During the design process, special attention was paid to accessibility, so that residents with disabilities can also take full advantage of the facilities. In this way, the playground contributes to a fitness-friendly Wassenaar, with space for different groups to be active from sunrise to sunset.

With this new facility, the municipal executive is also fulfilling the goal set out in the cooperation agreement to ensure there are sufficient places for play and physical activity in Wassenaar. Right next to the new playground is the skatepark, which has been attracting many young visitors since its opening in April 2025. Together, these facilities make Geesbert van Barneveld Park even more appealing as a place to be active outdoors and socialize.

Grand Opening

On Wednesday, October 7, at 1:00 p.m., Rebecca Baart, a member of the Dutch national basketball team ( Alderman ), will officially open the new playground. Coach Dennis will also be in attendance. With his fitness videos and more than 100,000 followers on social media, he inspires many young people every day to get active. This festive opening, featuring activities for all ages, will last until 2:30 p.m. The exact program will be announced shortly.
