Cooperation Agreement 2026–2030: 'Building Wassenaar Together'
Wassenaar is a special village. It’s green, safe, and has a close-knit community. People look out for one another, and the quality of life is high. A lot has been accomplished in recent years. A new sports hall was built, and the town center was renovated. The Wassenaar Social Team got to work. Furthermore, various housing projects have been launched, such as the Tuynen van den Deyl. In addition, the beach access has been improved, and there is a new housing plan for our schools. We also collaborate extensively within the region. This allows us to find feasible solutions to shared challenges. Some plans are now complete, while other proposals are still in progress. For example, the renovation of the De Paauw Town Hall and the De Warenar cultural center.
This agreement builds on existing initiatives and sets a new direction. It provides a strong foundation for the upcoming 2026–2030 term.
In the March 2026 municipal elections, the Wassenaar VVD, D66 Wassenaar, and Lokaal Wassenaar! received enough support from voters to form a majority together. We view that support as a shared responsibility. We want to work together, make decisions, and build a future-proof Wassenaar. Collaboration is therefore central to this agreement. Between the coalition parties, with the municipal council where possible, and above all with residents, business owners, and community organizations. That is why the content has been deliberately written in broad strokes.
This leaves room for dialogue, new ideas, and input from others, including other political parties. We work together to build Wassenaar. A strong financial foundation is, of course, essential to this. Only with sound municipal finances can we continue to invest in what matters to our residents: quality services, a safe community, good education, adequate Health a pleasant living environment. At the same time, we are committed to a municipality that operates on the basis of trust and simplicity. Fewer rules where possible and more room for initiative. We want to be a municipality that is clear, approachable, and reliable—a government that stands alongside residents and business owners and listens closely to what matters in the village.
Finally, we would like to emphasize that this agreement is not the end of the story. It serves as the foundation for our plans and for the future of our village. Together, we will continue to build a Wassenaar where people can live and work safely and healthily—both now and in the future.
