Voting from abroad
Are you Dutch, living abroad and no longer registered in a Dutch municipality? Then you can register to still vote in Dutch elections. Registration is done through the municipality of The Hague.
Registering as a voter abroad
If you live abroad and want to vote in Dutch elections, you have to register once as a voter outside the Netherlands. This also applies to Dutch nationals living in Aruba, Curaçao or St. Maarten.

After your registration, you will automatically receive the documents you need to vote in upcoming elections. Without registration, you cannot vote from abroad.
For which elections can you vote?
If you are a registered voter abroad, you can vote for:
- the election of members of the House of Representatives
- the election of members of the European Parliament
- The electoral college non-residents (for the Senate)
Requirements to be allowed to vote
You may vote if you meet the following Requirements :
- You live outside the Netherlands and are not registered in a Dutch municipality
- You have the Dutch nationality
- You are 18 years of age or older
Temporary stay abroad
Are you temporarily abroad on the day of the election, but registered in a Dutch municipality? Then you can also vote. You can request to vote by written proxy or by letter.
You can apply for a written proxy at the municipality where you are registered. If you wish to vote by letter, you can register for each election with the municipality of The Hague. A special application form will be available for this purpose prior to each election at: www.stemmenvanuithetbuitenland.nl.
