Accessibility of our polling stations
In the municipality of Wassenaar, we value a society in which everyone can participate. That is why the municipality ensures that voting in municipal elections is organized in as accessible and inclusive a manner as possible.
Accessible voting booths
For example, the municipality has made efforts to make polling stations as accessible as possible. This includes installing a lowered table in voting booths for wheelchair users or other residents who could benefit from this.
Dutch Sign Language Interpreter
A Dutch Sign Language interpreter is also available remotely at each polling station, who can provide assistance and guidance via video call.
Magnifying glasses available
In addition, magnifying glasses are available at every location for reading the small print, and a list in larger font is available at the municipal office to make reading easier.
Prokkel duo
In addition, a Prokkel duo will be present at one of the polling stations. A Prokkel duo consists of a person with a mild intellectual disability (MID) and a person without a disability working together. As a duo, they will work with the other polling station officials to ensure that voting runs smoothly. In this way, the Prokkel duo contributes to a more inclusive and accessible Wassenaar.
Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Tools
Finally, Hidden Disabilities Sunflower aids will be made available free of charge at all polling stations. These are useful aids such as lanyards, wristbands, and pins, which allow you to discreetly indicate that you have an (invisible) disability so that others can take this into account. This promotes mutual understanding and an inclusive and accessible municipality of Wassenaar!
