Wassenaar Takes the Next Step Toward Clean Air
Every year on September 7 is International Clean Air Day. It’s a fitting occasion to reflect on the good air quality in Wassenaar and on the steps the municipality is taking to further improve it.
One of those steps is signing on to the Clean and Emission-Free Construction Pact.
Through this agreement, Wassenaar is helping to reduce emissions from construction and maintenance work. As a result, electric equipment will be used more frequently in (construction) projects. This will lead to lower emissions, less noise, and less disruption to the surrounding area.
Clean air has a direct impact on health. According to a GGD calculation on air quality and health, residents of Wassenaar can be expected to live an average of 54 days longer.
In addition to emissions from construction activities, the municipality is also drawing attention to other sources of air pollution, such as traffic and wood burning. In this way, Wassenaar continues to work toward a clean, healthy, and attractive living environment.
