What traffic rules apply to disabled vehicles?
A disabled vehicle is a vehicle equipped to transport a disabled person. The maximum dimensions of the vehicle are 1.10 m wide, 3.50 m long and
2.0 m high. Handicapped vehicles are allowed to drive on the sidewalk, footpath, bike path, bike/moped path and roadway. Driving on freeway and highway is not permitted. Parking on the sidewalk is permitted. Drivers of disabled vehicles are subject to the same rules of right of way as other drivers.
Only when drivers of disabled vehicles use pedestrian facilities (such as sidewalks or pedestrian crossings) do the pedestrian rules apply to them.
The speed limit is 30 km/h inside built-up areas and 40 km/h outside built-up areas.
On the roadway, you may drive a maximum of 45 kilometers per hour. This applies inside and outside built-up areas.
On the sidewalk, the maximum speed is 6 km/h.
The minimum driver's age is 16 years for vehicles that can go faster than 10 km/h. There is no minimum age for vehicles that cannot go faster than 10 mph.
