Garbage, plastic, can and drink containers

From January 2022, Plastic and Metal Packaging and Drinking Packs (PMD) will be allowed in the container for residual waste. The waste processor will then later remove PMD from residual waste so that it can still be recycled. Other waste streams such as VGF, textiles and paper/cardboard cannot be removed from residual waste afterwards. You must therefore always dispose of these separately in the correct container.

The municipality of Wassenaar wants to make waste collection easier for its residents. By collecting the residual waste with the PMD in one container, you no longer have to think about whether something is PMD or residual waste. At the processor, the PMD will be separated again and the still valuable materials can be reused.

How does it work?

Due to this change, Avalex empties the residual waste container weekly. Check avalex.nl or the Avalex app for the new collection days. With the app, you can get weekly reminders for collection days.

Additional information

Disposable plastic intended for single use has been banned since July 3, 2021. Think plastic straws, cutlery, plates, cotton buds and so on. These products may no longer be placed on the market. From July 1, 2023, you will also have to pay extra if you use disposable plastic tableware from a company. Think, for example, of a coffee cup or packaging for a sandwich. The company decides how much they charge for this. If you use a reusable alternative, you will not pay extra.
