Sustainable heat for Wassenaar

The municipality is working on the heating program. In this program, we outline in broad terms how Wassenaar will phase out natural gas. We will therefore be launching a public engagement process in the coming period. We believe it is important for residents to have a say in the decisions we make and for their wishes, ideas, and concerns to be taken into account.

Why are we having this conversation?

The transition to a different heating system has implications for our neighborhoods, residents, and businesses. That is why we want to consider not only what is technically possible but also what matters most to residents—for example, when it comes to affordability, comfort, sustainability, and practical considerations in homes and commercial buildings.

How can you contribute your ideas?

During the public participation process, we will organize various opportunities for residents to share their opinions and ideas. We also ask that you complete a questionnaire.

Through this survey, we’d like to hear what residents already know about sustainable heating, what questions they have, and what concerns and ideas they have. We’re also curious to learn about making your home more sustainable. The results of this survey will help us better tailor the heating program to residents’ wishes and needs.

Join us and fill out the questionnaire

It takes about ten minutes to fill out the form. Plus, you’ll have a chance to win one of three cakes from Maison Kelder. The winners will be announced on Monday, November 2, during the closing meeting at City Hall.

The questionnaire is not only available online; during the various participation sessions, there will also be an opportunity to fill out a paper version.

During this meeting, we’ll look back on the results of the participatory process and look ahead to the next steps. The “ Alderman ” will raffle off a cake from Maison Kelder to three winners selected from among the survey participants.

What do we do with your input?

During the participation process, we’ll gather ideas, points of concern, questions, and concerns from residents. We’ll use these as we continue to develop the heating program. Afterward, we’ll share what we’ve gathered and how the input has been incorporated into the program. We’ll do this during the closing meeting on Monday, November 2.

How does the raffle work?

On Monday, November 2, three lucky participants in the survey will be entered into a drawing to win a cake from Maison Kelder. The prize is a Maison Kelder cake for 12 people, valued at €40.95. Winners can choose from the following flavors: hazelnut cream, hazelnut mocha, or hazelnut chocolate.

You can enter through Monday, October 24.

How can you win the prize? Survey participants provide their name, address, and phone number on a separate form. Participation is free.

How is the winner chosen? The winners will be selected by random drawing after the survey closes, during the closing meeting on November 2. If a winner is not present, he or she will be personally notified of the option to claim the prize.

Once the raffle has concluded, the collected personal data will be deleted.

Heat Transition Vision

The Heat Transition Vision is the precursor to the heat program. The municipality of Wassenaar has drafted a vision outlining how Wassenaar will transition to sustainable heat by 2050. We call this the Heat Transition Vision. It details the opportunities we currently see in each neighborhood and the milestones we aim to achieve for the future.

Wassenaar's transition vision heat

The Heating Transition Vision was adopted by the Wassenaar City Council at the end of November 2021. The main goal of the vision is: The municipality of Wassenaar will beCO2-neutral by 2050. We are working toward that goal. Based on what we knew at the time, the Heat Transition Vision outlined how and at what Requirements we intended to achieve this. The Heat Program replaces the Heat Transition Vision.

Read residents' input

Over 500 residents participated in thinking about the transition vision. People were able to give their opinions through a questionnaire (March 2021) and in several online workshops (April 2021). A summary was made of the information and ideas collected so far. A first, shared picture of the route to 2050 was also created. This summary and route was shared in the Wassenaarse Krant in June 2021. Residents were then asked to respond to it. All input from residents was translated into a participation report. This, together with the technical-economic advice, has been included in the transition vision heat.
