Sustainable meetings

Sustainability is more relevant than ever. In Wassenaar, more and more residents and entrepreneurs are actively working to make their homes and surroundings greener and more sustainable. Every step, no matter how small, contributes to a better living environment and a healthier planet—for ourselves and for future generations. 

But what exactly does this mean? What practical tips are there? And who can you contact with questions or ideas? 

During meetings, excursions, or city safaris in Wassenaar, knowledge, experiences, and inspiration surrounding sustainability and energy transition come together. In an informal atmosphere, you will meet other residents and various experts. They are happy to help you think about how to make your home, neighborhood, or street more sustainable. You will gain plenty of energy and inspiration to get started yourself.

Invitation to information evening on Sustainable Wassenaar – Tuesday, April 14

Would you like to learn more about the De Paauw district heating initiative? Then join us on Tuesday, April 14, for our information evening at the Van der Valk Hotel The Hague – Wassenaar.

We will update you on the plans for a future-proof Wassenaar, in collaboration with Warmte Cooperatie De Paauw (WCDP). In addition, entrepreneur and moderator Mirjam van Laarhoven will discuss the question: How can we live well and future-proof in Wassenaar? Expect an interactive evening full of inspiration, new encounters, and fresh ideas.

Circular economy: working together to give things a second life

We all know how it goes: something breaks, so we buy a new one. But there are often creative solutions for repairing, exchanging, or reusing items. In Wassenaar, we are also actively working on circularity. Much has already been shared about this during previous meetings. There are also plenty of inspiring examples to be found nationwide.

The meetings offer a valuable network of committed residents, active support from the municipality, and plenty of opportunity to work together on a sustainable Wassenaar. You don't have to start an initiative yourself—you can also join existing projects or just drop by for inspiration.

Why Wassenaarders are becoming more sustainable now.

It is important to become sustainable now and not wait any longer, because, for example, now the neighborhood teams are up and running and you can benefit from the locally accumulated knowledge. And because now you can still benefit from subsidies and other schemes that will not always last. Therefore, take action now!

Valuable network of residents

In 2018, enthusiastic residents reported to the municipality with sustainable plans. There was a need for a joint network to inform each other, spar together and inspire each other to do something concrete about CO₂ emissions. And it works: now we help each other sharpen plans and achieve results. We have a lot of knowledge and expertise and are learning from each other. During the Climate Table meetings and beyond, we know how to find each other. Individually but also through neighborhood teams. This networking function is very valuable, because we can take concrete steps and help each other. We would also like to help you take steps.

Active support municipality of Wassenaar

The municipality helps resident initiatives by bringing people together so they can share their ideas. The municipality also supports with expertise. For example by involving external parties. Such as the organization Buurkracht that helps neighborhood energy teams with an insulation project, for example. The goal is to reduce CO₂ emissions in our municipality and to make Wassenaar more sustainable in general.
