Traffic is being driven against me on my street. What now?

After one-way traffic is established on a street, it is common in the beginning that it is ignored more often. Usually this is because people are not yet used to the new situation. In addition, it is always possible for someone to ignore one-way traffic. This may be because it is unclear that one-way traffic applies or because someone knowingly drives against the direction of traffic.

Police and municipal enforcement can take action against unauthorized disregard of the mandatory direction of travel. Contact the police (0900 8844) or file a BOA report through the reporting system or call 14 070.

Before enforcement can proceed, it is always assessed whether the traffic situation is sufficiently clear that one-way traffic exists. Should this not be the case, the traffic situation is first clarified.

On some one-way roads there is an exemption regulation. Then residents and/or business owners with an exemption are allowed to drive against the direction of travel. In this case, the indication "except for dispensation holders" is always shown below the traffic sign.
