Integral Child Center Huibregtseveld
Fixing new location Wassenaar Catholic Education Foundation
The location for the new composite Integral Child Center (IKC) to replace St. Jan Baptist Elementary School and St. Joseph Elementary School was decided Tuesday night, June 4, in the City Council. The request to merge the two schools came from the Wassenaar Catholic Education Foundation (SKOW). The IKC will be a school for 480 pupils. There will also be a collaboration with the adjacent Norlandia childcare center to make it a full-fledged Integrated Children's Center (IKC). In July 2023, the search area has already been determined for the new composite school, namely at the Huibregtseveld. This was followed by, among other things, a traffic study and ecological study. In addition, the municipality organized three residents (participation) evenings to gather input to determine the exact location for the new school. Based on this, the location behind the former Huibregts School was determined by the city council. In addition to establishing the location, an amendment was submitted to remove the soccer cage located on the field. This amendment passed and the soccer cage will be removed. Next step: now that the site has been determined, SKOW will begin working with an architect to create an initial design and discuss options.
Alderman Education Ritkse Bloemendaal: "I am pleased that the city council has determined a location near the Huibregtseveld for the new school of Stichting Katholiek Onderwijs Wassenaar. This will be a beautiful green location for the future pupils. I expect this will be an enrichment for Wassenaar."
Integral Children's Center: new, green and traffic-safe environment for children
An Integral Child Center, or "all-in-one school," is a facility for children ages zero to thirteen in one place. A pre-school; nursery; elementary school; out-of-school care (BSO) and welfare activities. After grade 8, they make the transition to secondary education and no longer attend an Integral Child Center.
The Wassenaar Catholic Education Foundation (SKOW) wants to build a new IKC because the buildings at St. Jozef School and St. Jan Baptist School are outdated. The municipalities therefore worked with SKOW to find a new, safe and green place for 480 Wassenaar children. The municipality of Wassenaar believes that all children are entitled to good and easily accessible schools and supports the plans of the SKOW.

Part of a strong new heart for Wassenaar North
The new school helps to strengthen the neighborhood. For example, the school building can also become a "house of the neighborhood," with space for cultural activities. During the construction of the school, the park can also be made more sustainable. Together with the new health center, the neighborhood will then have a strong new heart.
