Maintenance level of public space
How does the municipality maintain outdoor space?
The municipality is responsible for maintenance in outdoor spaces. That includes maintenance of the roads, public lighting, how clean it is, and maintaining public green spaces.
Nationally, there are levels for this, ranging from A to D, with A being the highest and D the lowest. The Municipality of Wassenaar maintains its outdoor spaces at Level B. Below, we explain which level applies to which aspect and what you can expect from the municipality.
Roads
The municipality maintains roads, sidewalks, bike paths, and parking spaces. Level B is the basic quality level, at which roads are maintained to a sufficient and functional standard. This means that minor maintenance is performed on a daily basis, such as addressing reports from residents and ensuring road safety. Major maintenance is also carried out, such as repaving, asphalt renewal, or road replacement.
Clean
This involves emptying trash cans and ensuring they are in good condition, as well as picking up litter and controlling weeds. The municipality performs this maintenance at Level B.
Green
This involves the maintenance of public greenery, such as planting, hedges, the height of weeds on the street. The municipality performs maintenance at level B. This means that we regularly sweep, mow, brush and hoe. In the process, weeds in the planting or on the pavement are allowed to occur to a limited extent.
