Store opening hours

Stores are allowed to be open between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. on weekdays and Saturdays.

On Sundays and holidays, stores may be open from noon to 6 pm.

On Sundays and holidays, museums and video stores may be open from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.

This includes (also) :

  • New Year's Day
  • Easter Monday
  • Ascension Day
  • Whit Monday, 
  • Christmas Day and Boxing Day

In addition, stores must be closed after 7 p.m. on:

  • Good Friday
  • May 4
  • Dec. 24

If you still want to be open on other days or times, you can apply for an exemption only if there are occasional events or actions.

What to do

  • You apply for the exemption from the municipality. Indicate the days and times you want your store to be open and why. 
  • The municipality will send you a notice whether you will receive the waiver.  
  • The municipality may set Requirements for the waiver. You must comply with these Requirements . 

Submit appeal 

Does the municipality reject your application or do you disagree with the Requirements? Then you can file an appeal with the Board of Business Appeals.

The application must meet the requirements set forth in the shopping hours ordinance (see local regulations for this purpose).

Entrepreneurs can request Sunday shopping from the municipality. This must be done in a timely manner. The municipality issues a call for this in the newspaper.
