If the sewer at your place is clogged then you or the municipality must fix the clog.

  • If the cause is on municipal land, the municipality must fix the problem and the municipality pays the cost.
  • If the cause is on your own land, you must fix the problem yourself and pay the cost yourself.

What to do

If you report a blockage in your house sewer and you have the unblocked area near the property line open then call the municipality.

You can find out where the unblocker is at your property by looking at a sewer drawing.

The agreement is that a municipal employee will then come to check and take action as soon as possible but no later than the next business day. If the blockage occurs over the weekend, action will be taken on the next working day.

A condition in the case of a blockage in the municipal section is that the unblocked section remains open so that a flooding of sewage into your home is prevented. The sewage can then overflow into the garden through a pit near the property boundary.
