School fees, contribution

Students between the ages of 18 and 30 can receive a contribution, which you can use to buy school supplies, for example. This is called a pupil contribution. You can apply for this allowance at the DUO (DUO).

How does it work?

The allowance is a gift; you do not have to pay it back. How much you get depends on your parents' income and whether you still live with your parents. You are entitled to the allowance if you meet the following Requirements :

  • You are taking a full-time course in the Netherlands in secondary education (vo), secondary special education (vso) or secondary general adult education (vavo).
  • You are between 18 and 30 years old. Or if you are in the vso between the ages of 18 and 20.
  • You have the Dutch nationality. If you do not have Dutch nationality, you can sometimes still receive a benefit. Check the nationality scheme of the DUO to see if this applies to you.

What do I need?

To apply for the allowance, you need:

  • your DigiD
  • details of your school and training
