Benefits affair: help for parents and children
If you are a parent or child having problems because of the benefits affair, you can get help through your municipality. This is called broad support. This help is for the whole family.
Together with a member of the Social Team you will discuss your situation. And what help is appropriate, such as help with these things:
- Health regulate
- find work
- solving problems in the family
- sort out finances
- comfortable living
How do you proceed when you apply for help?
If you apply for help, you will first meet with someone from the Social Team. We then discuss what you could use help with and what you need. This way we make sure that the help is appropriate to your situation.
Together we make a plan that states what goals you want to achieve and what help you will get. You will be given this plan of action to take home with you so that you can read everything over again at your leisure.
The Social Team staff member keeps track of the help you and your family receive. And calls you regularly to ask how things are going.
For example, what help can you get?
You discuss with the Social Team what help is appropriate for your situation.
Examples of help:
- You can get an explanation of what you find complicated.
- You may want support with everything. For example, anything to do with money.
- Someone can think with you and point the way to the right help. For example, help to improve your home situation, to find work or with health problems. The help can be for you, for your children or for the whole family.
- Our staff member may accompany you to meetings with the Recovery Benefits Implementation Organization (UHT). Those conversations are often about how much money you will receive (financial compensation or damages).
- Our associate can also help file debts you have with non-government organizations.
- Do you need consultations with a psychologist or other specialized help? We can help you with that, too.
- Sometimes you may also need help in or around the house. Such as maintenance that you were previously unable to do due to child care subsidy issues.
Are you entitled to money or items from the municipality?
Many parents think that parents and children are entitled to money or items from the municipality. Or that the municipality has a fixed amount for each parent. Or that everyone always gets exactly the same thing. That's not true. And it sometimes causes confusion, disappointment or anger.
For example, you won't get furniture and things for an entire house. Nor will you get electric bicycles for the whole family.
What we do is provide the help needed to make a fresh start. Some families also need items. Then they get those. But this is not something everyone is entitled to by default.
What do you have a right to?
All registered parents, children and their families are entitled to help through the municipality. Together with someone from the Social Team you will discuss what is possible and what fits your situation.
In the plan of action, we put what goals you want to achieve and what help you will get. To achieve the goals in the plan, it is sometimes necessary to give someone stuff. But that is not necessary. Often other help suits the situation better.
Does the amount of UHT affect assistance through the municipality?
No. The money you have had from UHT (compensation or damages) does not affect help through the municipality. We will work with you to see what you need to make a fresh start.
What if the UHT says your problems are not because of the benefits affair?
The UHT tests whether your problems are because of the benefits affair. Does the test show that you have not been duped? Then the help via the municipality stops after 1 month. During that month we will see if we can help you in another way.
What about the child scheme and help through the municipality?
Are your parents in trouble because of the benefits affair? If so, there is the child allowance scheme for you.You will receive a letter about this from the Tax Office with the amount of money you will receive.
In addition to the amount of money, you can also get help through the municipality. Contact the Social Team to talk about your problems or questions. We will be happy to help you.
