Getting married abroad
How nice that you are getting married abroad. It is important that you can prove there that you are not married or in a registered partnership with someone else. This is done with a declaration of unmarried status or a declaration of marital competence. You can apply for these declarations at the municipality.
Unmarried declaration
An unmarried declaration is an excerpt from the Basic Registration of PersonsBRP).
If you live in the Netherlands then apply for this declaration at your home municipality.
If you live abroad then apply for this declaration at an RNI municipality.
Certificate of marital competence
A certificate of marital status is a document issued by the civil registry of your current or last place of residence. This usually requires you to provide a number of documents before the certificate can be issued to you.
