Elections, empower another person

Can't come to the polling place yourself? Then you can authorize someone else to do this for you. This is possible at all elections. 

Private power of attorney

  • You fill out the back of your voting card.
  • You and the person you authorize both sign your voting card.
  • You give the person you authorize your voting card and a copy of your valid ID.

Please note that for municipal elections, you can only authorize someone who lives in Wassenaar.

The proxy shall bring the following items to the polling place:

  • A copy of your proof of identity This may also be a photo or and scan of your proof of identity. Your proof of identity may be expired for up to five years This may be expired for up to 5 years.
  • Your completed and signed voting card.

Written power of attorney

  • You will complete form L8.
  • Your own voting pass is thereby invalidated, You also cannot reapply for a voting pass.
  • Therefore, you can no longer vote yourself.

The proxy shall bring the following items to the polling place:

  • The proxy. The person authorized must cast this vote(s) at the same time as his own. A person may vote for a maximum of two other persons.
  • In Provincial State elections, you authorize someone from the same province
  • In water board elections, you authorize someone from the same water board
  • For House of Representatives elections, European elections and a referendum, you can authorize someone from any Dutch municipality
