Suspected illegal construction

The municipality checks that anyone building or remodeling is following the rules.

If you think a construction or renovation is not going according to the rules, you can report it to the municipality.

How does it work?

The municipality's supervisors or enforcers conduct the inspection. They may:

  • entering buildings without permission
  • request information
  • Review business records and documents and make copies of them
  • Examining things, e.g. opening packages and taking stuff

Supervisors should never enter homes without the residents' permission.

If the municipality finds that a building or renovation is not going according to the rules, it can stop the construction or renovation. The municipality can also close access to the building.

Additional information

With the entry into force of the Omgevingswet , the step-by-step entry into force of the Wkb begins.
The Building Quality Assurance Act (Wkb), also known as the Quality Assurance Act for short, shifts the supervision and testing of the building requirements of a structure from the municipality to an independent party, the so-called quality assurance body. This does not immediately apply to all structures, but goes in stages.
