Feed ban imposed in parts of Wassenaar to limit nuisance
A ban on feeding animals in public areas is effective immediately in parts of Wassenaar. The measure was taken to prevent nuisance from rats and other animals.
Food that is put down or left lying around can attract rats and contribute to an infestation. This not only leads to neighborhood nuisance, but also increases the risk of disease spread. In addition, human food is harmful to animals and disrupts their natural behavior. Food that ends up in the water, such as bread for ducks, also has negative effects on water quality.
The ban applies only in the neighborhoods where most nuisance is currently experienced and where residents live relatively close together.
These are the following neighborhoods:
- The Paauw
- Village of Wassenaar
- Three Parrots
- Greater Deijleroord - Ter Weer
- East Village
- Wetering Park
- Side Watering
Animal nuisances can be reported to the municipality through the online hotline or by phone at 14 070.
