Report residential nuisance

Residential nuisance can occur in many ways. Examples include:

  • Noise
  • Pollution and odor nuisance
  • Neighbor dispute
  • Asocial behavior
  • Harassment and vandalism
  • Unlawful occupancy, such as subletting social rental property
  • Drug nuisance or other criminal activity

In case of a threatening or emergency situation always call the police at 0900-8844 or in case of emergency at 112.

Nuisance from your neighbors?

A first step is to let your neighbors know that you are experiencing a nuisance. They may not be aware that they are causing a nuisance. At a quiet time, speak kindly to your neighbors about their behavior. Don't wait too long and don't hoard your frustrations.

Report nuisance and you are a tenant of a housing association or private rental

Do you rent from a housing association or a private individual? Have you already made your own attempts to reduce or stop the nuisance? Have you also tried mediation and the nuisance does not stop? Then report the nuisance directly to the housing corporation or landlord.

A first step is to address the nuisance creator themselves. They may not be aware that they are causing a nuisance. Kindly speak to the person at a quiet moment about their behavior. Do not wait too long and do not save your frustrations.

As a homeowner, are you a member of the homeowners' association (VVE)? If so, report the nuisance directly to the VVE. Often there are residential rules or household regulations and the VVE can do something about it. 

If the nuisance persists, you can file a report with the municipality. The municipality usually handles your report within 5 working days. This does not always mean that the situation will then be resolved. Sometimes more time is needed.
