Xylella, do not bring plants from your vacation home
The summer vacations are coming again. This also gives the foreign plant disease Xylella more opportunity. Therefore, do not bring any plants or cuttings from your vacation address. This way you help to prevent an outbreak of the harmful plant disease Xylella in the Netherlands.
What is Xylella?
Xylella fastidiosa is a dangerous bacterial disease for plants. More than 300 plant species are susceptible to it. An outbreak can cause serious damage in gardens, public green spaces and nature. It has major financial consequences for growers of trees and perennials. The plant disease comes mainly from abroad.

Don't let Xylella travel with you
Unfortunately, Xylella has been detected in various regions across Europe. We want to prevent the disease from spreading to other areas, including the Netherlands. That is why we ask that you do not bring plants, cuttings, or other plant material back from abroad. If you do, the Xylella bacterium could travel with you unnoticed, and you would bring the disease to the Netherlands. For more information, visit the website of the Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) to learn what you can do to prevent Xylella and for more information on not bringing plants or cuttings into the country.
Certain import plants are rejected
Effective March 2, 2023, the Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) is going to refuse the import of plants susceptible to Xylella fastidiosa coming from 13 third countries. These are shipments from the following countries: Argentina, Chile, China, Colombia, Ecuador, Philippines, India, Indonesia, Jordan, Uzbekistan, Peru, Sri Lanka and Vietnam. More information can be found on the NVWA website.
Information for growers or traders
Are you growing or trading crops susceptible to Xylella? If so, take measures to prevent this plant disease from spreading. For more information, visit the NVWA's special growers and traders page.
